Amy Martin // MFA Design Thesis 2010

about

Re: Fwd: Email is my design MFA thesis project at California College of the Arts. This website was designed in Indesign (because type is so much easier to deal with in Indesign), chopped up in Photoshop and coded in BBEdit. I then used this simple tutorial to make a wordpress theme out of my html/css pages. I’m relatively old school web and fairly new to CSS so this CSS tutorial at w3 schools was helpful as was this tutorial on CSS columns. I use Feed to Javascript to display the blog entry summary at the footer of every page. There are probably wordpress plugins that do this but I was already using this script on my portfolio site so it was easier to use it here as well. I believe that is the extent of my web hackery.

Any print work I’ve done is a combination of Indesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. I’m somewhat stuck on Caecilia although I much prefer the italic to the roman. All the images on the site are screenshots or photographs of my thesis projects.

My programming projects are created in Processing (Java Jr.), which I fully recommend for designers and beginning programmers. Also of note is Mobile Processing, iProcessing and Processing.js. I expect good things from Protovis but I haven’t tried it out yet. I’ve also got NodeBox (Petite Python) which I haven’t used but looks very pretty and might be another good resource for the non-programmatic. I’ve heard Open Frameworks is the same kind of simplified programming language for c++ but it looks terrifying to me.
